Voki-Speaking Characters for Education

Hope you are all doing well. Today I wanna explain to you about Voki, which I find really useful for you, which has both an application and a website. Voki is a website where you can create speaking characters for education.

So what’s this Voki?

Voki is an application that allows you to create characters, make the characters speak and share your work the way you want. The characters you create with Voki have the ability to voice in many languages. Whatever you want to make your character say, you write in the text box there and the character voices it. In addition, in every language, both male and female, the opportunity to voice it with different accents of that language is offered. Voki characters not only speak the text but can also voice your voice recording. So you record audio there and your voice comes to life in character! With these features, Voki can be an entertaining application for our English lessons.

How can we use Voki in English lessons or while studying English?

I think Voki is a very convenient application, especially for foreign language lessons. It offers a good opportunity to foreign language teachers and students with many language options. So what could be the contribution of voki to these foreign language lessons? For example, one of the biggest problems of students in foreign language lessons is speaking. Because students generally cannot say what they learned because they fear making mistakes or because they are ashamed (I'm speaking from experience..) However, such students can vocalize a text they have read in their own voices via Voki to another character. Thus, the necessity, pressure, and fear of them can be minimized.

• In the Customise Your Character section of the Voki tool, we can change our character and the features of our character such as the type, dress, hat, and jewelry of our character are adjusted from this section.

• As you can see in the picture below, you have the opportunity to choose not only humans but also many characters such as animals, cartoons, anime, etc.

• You can change your character’s clothes, eye and hair color, background (there are lots of wonderful views) and more.

• As I mentioned before, you can give the sounds(different accents) you want to give your character in the Give It A Voice section. You can type the text from the keyboard icon or record your own voice by clicking the microphone icon.
