EDMODO-Learn Better Together
Hello everyone!
Hope you are all doing well. In today's post, I will talk about Edmodo, a "social learning platform" site for students and parents, which is a useful application for teachers and students.
WHAT IS EDMODO?
With the social isolation measures and lockdowns taking place due to the novel coronavirus, or Covid-19, teachers all around the globe started teaching English online. Therefore, online tools to assist teachers to manage their classes have recently grown in considerable popularity – they are known as Learning Management Systems (LMSs) such as Google Classroom, Schoology, Canvas, etc. Edmodo is also one of the LMSs tools. Edmodo is a classroom management web tool specially designed for teachers, students, and even parents, where teachers can make group invitations to their students, write messages to them, create quizzes, and share course documents.
HOW TO USE EDMODO?
In the beginning, you choose the type of membership you will open, namely, teacher, student and parent. I chose a teacher account and continued the process.
On the new page, name and surname information is requested, after filling in this field, on the next page, select the class setup process and proceed.
Fill in the required fields and click the next button. I prepared an example class in the picture:
Choose a special color for your class and click the create class button. After that, the add student screen will appear. You can then add students' mails.
Additionally, after logging into Edmodo as a teacher and creating a class, it will give you a class code. With this code, students can register and enter the class. You can also share as a pdf or invite your students via email
What Can You Do With Edmodo?
You can create class groups.
Using Edmodo, students and teachers can reach out to one another and properly connect by sharing and discussing ideas, problems, and helpful tips.
You can post an announcement to your students.
Parents can follow their students if they want.
Homework can be given to students and the deadline for these assignments can be determined.
Quizzes can be given to students. and it can be seen which student answered what. In addition, students' scores can be seen according to the answers.
As I mentioned before, there is a great option to create a quiz in Edmodo. In addition, it has many options when preparing a quiz such as multiple choice, True / false, short answer, fill in the blank, matching, multiple answer. Thus, while preparing an exam / quiz for your students, you have the opportunity to prepare a rich content, non-uniform quiz!
Here are some examples from the quiz that I prepared:
You can choose the due date and even time for your students to assign the quiz.
Finally, I would like to share with you my quiz on "Finding synonyms and antonyms of words" that I prepared for my students. Students might know that opposites attract and like to repel, however, how much do they know about synonyms and antonyms? So in this quiz they can turn their knowledge upside-down and inside-out while they are doing this quiz.
Follow these steps to take an Edmodo Quiz:
Select the specific Class and find the Quiz Post. If you have a lot of posts, you might want to click the "Filter Posts By" link in the top right corner and filter by Quizzes.
Click the “Take Quiz” button on the Quiz Post to take the Quiz. A page will appear with the name and details of the Quiz (description, time limit, etc.).
Select the “Start Quiz” button to start the Quiz. The timer will begin and will continue to go, even if you leave the Quiz window.
Select or type the answer to the question, and select the “Next” button at the top right of the Quiz to move on to the next question. Repeat until the Quiz is completed. You can also select the "Previous" button to go back and correct previous answers.
View how many questions have been completed and the amount of time left to complete the Quiz at the top panel.
Click the “Submit Quiz” button at the top right corner once the Quiz is completed. A pop up box will appear asking, “Are you sure you want to end this Quiz?” Once you select “OK,” the Quiz will be submitted.
Select the “View Results” link if your teacher chose to allow you to view your results immediately. By clicking this link, you will be able to review each question and see correct answers.
