The Future of Language Learning Augmented Reality vs. Virtual Reality

The Future of Language Learning Augmented Reality vs. Virtual Reality

Hello everyone! Hope you are all doing well. Today I'm gonna explain to you what is Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. I will also talk about the differences between them. I will try to summarize this topic for you as we covered this topic in the instructional technology course.

What is Augmented Reality (AR)?

Augmented Reality, one of the most popular topics today, is a type of experience that enriches existing reality. It provides real-time enrichment of the sensory elements created and their interaction with the physical world. In other words, it is a reality where the real and virtual worlds are not completely separated from each other, on the contrary, they are even more intertwined.

What Benefits Will Augmented Reality (AR) Technology Have For Us?

To summarize the concept of Augmented Reality, in other words, Augmented Reality in general terms, the images of the real physical world are created by combining various types of computer-sourced and virtual elements (graphics, video, sound, 3D models, etc.). it is a kind of interacting experience.

What makes Augmented Reality so attractive is that thanks to this technology, people can see all computer-sourced data in the real world, and have a real experience far beyond their biological vision and perception capabilities.

Why Should We Use AR in Our Foreign Language Teaching Classrooms?

It is one of the best ways to interact with students. While technology is the most attractive concept for children, why don't we use it to get their attention? We all know that we remember better than we listen to what we see. With AR applications, we can easily teach complex concepts to students.

It explains complex and abstract concepts better.

When you visualize the concept, the grammar, or words they have learned, students will understand the topic better. They will learn more quickly, especially with 3D model presentations or animation.

It provides practical knowledge and accessible learning. With AR applications, students can learn from their smartphones anytime and anywhere.

AR can have a positive impact on student motivation, achievement, and higher-order thinking skills.

It is clearly seen that the best way to convey the needed training to people in an instant and effective way is to use Augmented Reality in education.

Mental Math

For more information about AR you can watch this:

MONDLY

Mondly is a language learning platform where you speak with your virtual language assistant. Your digital assistant can chat with you in 7 different languages and gives feedback about your pronunciation based on your feedback. Mondly's speech recognition artificial intelligence support can bring virtual animals, instruments, and various objects beside you to make your lessons interesting.

Mondly, an Augmented Reality app allows users to learn new languages easily. The AR-enabled app reduces the pain of learning new languages with its tech-enabled interface app.

The app provides the user an experience within the classroom. A virtual teacher shows up on the screen and typically interacts with the specific users. The users will have a conversation with them and learn new languages like English.

What is Virtual Reality?

3D environments in virtual reality benefit from other senses such as hearing and movement besides the image.

Virtual reality is widely used to recreate places that exist or do not exist in real life with computers in at least 3 dimensions and to provide a real-like experience.

Virtual Reality is an immersive experience, also called computer simulation reality. It refers to computer technologies that use reality headsets to produce realistic sounds and images that replicate a real environment or create an imaginary world. VR is a way to immerse users in a completely virtual world.

What are The Differences between AR and VR?

AR technology is not the same as Virtual Reality. In an imaginary world with augmented reality, you see virtual elements integrated with real beings. In virtual reality, the whole experience is presented as a simulation.

AR provides more flexibility to the user.

VR is mainly used for entertainment purposes today.

Virtual reality offers an experience completely isolated from life. It is not about the real world and the real environment. Augmented reality integrates into real life.

The environment you live in virtual reality is fully simulated and recreated. It is an environment that does not really exist. In augmented reality, the virtual environment does not go above reality.

The main difference between AR and VR is what they do with reality. One of these technologies eliminates reality and replaces it with its own reality, while the other enhances the existing reality according to your wishes.

Powtton: The Visual Communication Platform + My animation video

Hello guys, Today I’m going to talk about Powtoon.Powtoon is one of the internet tools that has been used widely recently. With Powtoon, you can teach or watch really fun lessons. So what is Powtoon? How to use Powtoon? Here's how to use Powtoon. What is Powtoon? Powtoon is a tool that allows you to create an animation using speech bubbles, shapes, images, characters, and many other materials you can think of. Of course, creating these animations is entirely up to your creativity. With Powtoon, you can create beautiful, interesting animations with good planning and using your creativity. Thus, your lessons will be more fun and you can attract more attention of your students and make them more focused. How to Use Powtoon? To be honest, I had no idea how to do it at first. Although its use seems a bit complicated at first sight, I found it very simple with a little effort and you will understand when you try it. :) You can share your animations on YouTube and other video sharing si...

Voki-Speaking Characters for Education

Voki-Speaking Characters for Education Hi everyone!  Hope you are all doing well. Today I wanna explain to you about Voki, which I find really useful for you, which has both an application and a website. Voki is a website where you can create speaking characters for education. So what’s this Voki? Voki is an application that allows you to create characters, make the characters speak and share your work the way you want. The characters you create with Voki have the ability to voice in many languages. Whatever you want to make your character say, you write in the text box there and the character voices it. In addition, in every language, both male and female, the opportunity to voice it with different accents of that language is offered. Voki characters not only speak the text but can also voice your voice recording. So you record audio there and your voice comes to life in character! With these features, Voki can be an entertaining application for our English lessons. How can...

Open&Distance Learning/ Developing Materials/Lumi Interactive Video

What is Lumi? First of all, I would love to give information about Lumi before introducing our activity. With Lumi you can create, edit and view interactive HTML elements (H5P packages) in your desktop environment. You can choose from over 40 content types (templates), which include interactive videos and all common quiz types such as fill-in-the-blanks, multiple choice questions. You don't need any programming knowledge to work with Lumi!   Lumi/Interactive Video We wanted to prepare an interactive activity with the song we chose for practicing conditionals. After listening to the lyrics, in order to check whether they understand what they are listening to, they have to choose the sentence they heard right after listening. It's appropriate for 6th graders and pre-intermediate learners. we chose 'If clause' as a grammar topic. https://app.lumi.education/content/642427aec618827fd86969ea
